Nicely decorated with pansies

In the language of flowers, the pansy symbolizes the power of loving thoughts and memories. As early as the 19th century, lovers were often sending each other small bouquets of pansies, so-called “pensées”. You should assure the recipient of eternal fidelity. The pansy also appears in Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. Oberon uses the juice of this garden plant as an erotic magic substance to make Titania fall in love with herself.

Depending on the area, the pansy is also known under the names Dreifaltigkeitskraut, Herzenstrost, Schöngesicht or Mädchenauge. The name pansy is explained by the shape of the flower: the lowest, broad leaf, the “stepmother”, partially covers the lateral leaves, the “daughters”. These in turn cover the top leaves, the “stepdaughters”. The pansy belongs to the violet family and is very popular in Europe because it persistently defies the cold. Rain and snow cannot bend the inflorescences thanks to their low height of no more than 30 cm. Even in the bare winter garden, the pansies shine with their colorful splendor and spread a good mood and spring-like feelings of hope. This is a good reason to let the pansies become the focus of a cozy afternoon invitation. For the goal, you can bring small, beautifully arranged pots with the delicate flowers into the house and use them to decorate the coffee table. For additional flower freshness in the decoration, cut flowers from large-flowered types of flowers, which are placed in vessels filled with water. A particularly harmonious picture is created if you also decorate the room according to the stepmother’s motto. In addition to nice little accessories, such as a box painted with pansies, which comes into its own on a side table. Curtains or decorative pillows with the pretty flowers also serve as the perfect frame. Tablecloths and napkins also take on the color of the flowers. Crockery and candles can also shine in violet blue or blossom-delicate yellow. Cutlery, vases and candlesticks made of silver go well with this and provide special color accents by setting bright highlights on the colorful coffee table.

As already mentioned, pansies belong to the violet family and are therefore, like other violets, edible. Natural or candied, they are a wonderful, unusual decoration for desserts, cakes and salads.
