Suzanne Hough was an expert in seismology who served as a research geophysicist at the United States Geological Survey. Her focus of work involved modeling induced seismicity and earthquake prediction.
She first gained fame through ABC’s hit reality dance competition series Dancing with the Stars, where she won two seasons and received an Emmy nomination.
Early Life and Education
Hough was raised in Utah and trained in theater, music, gymnastics and various forms of dance. She became one of the youngest winners on Dancing With the Stars Season 5 as well as being part of Rock of Ages and Safe Haven casts.
While participating on Dancing With the Stars, she experienced abdominal discomfort that led to endometriosis – an affliction in which tissue from inside of her uterus grows outside its natural borders – eventually being diagnosed. After seeking medical advice she made a full recovery and resumed her career.
After facing various trials and challenges in her life, Suzanne used them as opportunities to grow deeper on her healing path, leading to the establishment of Living Your Gifts. Suzanne now also teaches fiber arts classes at her timber home for knitters, spinners, and weavers of all levels – plus offers advanced multi-year courses!
Professional Career
Suzanne Hough is an American dancer and actress best known for appearing in multiple films and television shows; as well as serving as a judge on ‘Dancing With the Stars’.
Hough made her acting debut in 2001 when she played Ariel Moore in the movie adaptation of ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’. Since then she has gone on to appear as various characters such as Sherrie Christian in 2012 musical film Rock of Ages, as well as playing Katie Feldman from Safe Haven romantic drama film.
Two-time Dancing with the Stars champion Karina Smirnoff has also graced Broadway in ‘Burlesque’ and ‘Footloose’ and was a regular guest judge on America’s Got Talent from 2014-2021. Married to NHL pro hockey player Brooks Laich, they have one daughter together.

She is a two-time ‘Dancing with the Stars’ champion and has won two Creative Arts Primetime Emmy Awards, in addition to appearing in various movies including 2011 remake of ‘Footloose’.
Hough is currently single after ending her relationship with NHL professional hockey player Brooks Laich in 2020, prompting speculation of possible divorce due to his social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic and eventual separation in 2022. She recently hosted the first hour of the 75th Tony Awards alongside Darren Criss – receiving praise from critics for both hosting skills and an “adorably enthusiastic nerdiness”.
