Early Life and Education

Daniel Talbott was born in 1724 and later raised orphaned after both of his parents passed away, taking up residence with their uncles, the Neales. Daniel rose to become an important citizen in his region owing several taverns as well as becoming town trustee.

Talbott was the scion of an influential North Carolina family and established New Yorker Films as a means to expose audiences to cutting-edge foreign and independent movies – thus helping shape the sensibilities of generations of Upper West Siders.

His passion for theatre began early, when he auditioned for San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theatre Center’s Young Conservatory program and won full scholarships to both schools. Much of his playwrighting focuses on families; for instance, 2011 Lambda Literary Award finalist Slipping, explores one such household.

He’s also an award-winning director, sitting on the lit team of Rattlestick Playwrights Theater and serving as artistic director of Lucille Lortel and NYIT Award-winning Rising Phoenix Rep. His credits as a director include Scarcity, Mike and Seth Yosemite AZAK What Happened When and Someone Brought Me.

Achievement and Honors

Talbott has won multiple Innovative Theatre Awards for directing. His work with Rising Phoenix has challenged audiences in ways they may have never expected; such as Yosemite being staged in an East Village bar’s back room.

Talbott wrote and directed this play featuring Merritt Wever, Will Pullen and Chris Stack; she also served as writer. Following this play was her indie feature Midday Black Midnight Blue with Sam Soule as lead actor.

Talbott, an award-winning theater producer and writer for television shows like ABC’s The Conners and Spike TV’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Mist novella respectively. Additionally, Summer is under option with Sonar Entertainment while Rome Georgia at WIPP remains in development.

Personal Life

Talbott has served in marketing, finance, and sales roles at Curbell Plastics; serving as vice president for stock shapes and custom fabricated plastic components at one point. Additionally, he has held board membership roles at multiple companies and enjoys theater as much as his family does.
