Steve Waites, Author of 2020’s Woman in Black, Angel of Death

Steve Waites has experienced an extensive and varied career. From market trading to corporate management and author of thriller novels.

He currently represents Oxford as Place 5 Council Member employed by Enhabit Home Health and Hospice. An advocate for improving education, public safety and quality of life within Oxford.

Early Life and Education

Waites was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Immaculate Conception grade school before attending Bishop Egan high school. Following graduation he moved to New York City and enrolled at Juilliard School – graduating with a degree in acting.

As part of his effort to pay tuition costs, he took up work at Rosewood Center in Owings Mills, Maryland – a state run facility for disabled individuals – where he met Loretta Olienyk whom would eventually become his future wife.

Community engagement and service is at the core of his being, serving on boards at Jacksonville State University’s annual fund board, Oxford Baseball for Youth, Oxford Parks and Recreation Board and also as part of Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Advancing Health Equity National Advisory Committee Advancing Health Equity National Advisory Committee Advancing Health Equity National Advisory Committee; his work centers around behavioral health as well as structural influencers of health.

Professional Career

Waites has won two BDO World Championships, three Winmau World Masters titles and the Zuiderduin Masters title, in addition to reaching the final of 2010 Grand Slam of Darts. Additionally he was three-time European Championship finalist as well as being the first BDO player ever to defeat Phil Taylor at any major tournament.

He was a four-year starter at power forward for Pine Crest high school in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and one of its greatest rebounders ever. Additionally, he excelled as a sophomore football player before earning a varsity letter his junior year.

He has worked at Rite Aid for fourteen years and currently holds the title of District Manager, Loss Prevention. Prior to that he held Fitness Coordinator duties. Furthermore, he serves on Oxford City Council.

Achievement and Honors

Awarded British author of 2020’s Woman in Black: Angel of Death is back with another gothic mystery with relentless tension, yet flawed characters. Tom Killgannon from both books has settled in Cornwall to try to escape his past life that still haunts him.

Waite-Lutz and Dotson may be younger actors, but both have made notable performances this year: Dotson as Pepper in Performance Now’s Annie and Waite-Lutz as Mr. Banks in Vintage Theatre’s Mary Poppins respectively.

Personal Life

Steve had an immense love of family, friends and work. He had an infectious sense of humor with an easygoing demeanor as well as a spiritual connection to Mother Earth.

Music was his passion, from classic rock to hard metal and everything in between. Additionally, he enjoyed travelling and had visited various countries around the globe.

Steve worked full-time at Rosewood Center in Owings Mills, Maryland during his time at Towson University to help cover tuition. He thoroughly enjoyed this position and came up with innovative fundraising events for Rosewood.

Waites won the BDO Gold Cup and reached the Winmau World Masters final, only to lose out to Martin Adams. For each match he used The Fratellis’ Chelsea Dagger song as his entrance music.

Net Worth

Waites has long been involved with numerous charitable and civic organizations, such as Jacksonville State University’s Annual Fund Board, Oxford Baseball for Youth, Oxford Parks and Recreation Board, Edgewood Church as a member, etc.

He first came to fame as lead vocalist of The Babys and Bad English bands before finding success as a solo artist in the 1980s with “Missing You,” dethroning Tina Turner’s number-one song “What’s Love Got To Do With It?”.

At the 2010 BDO World Championship he was seeded second, but fell to Martin Phillips of Wales in the quarter finals. Chelsea Dagger by The Fratellis serves as his entrance music before matches and he has made over 28 trades of Big Lots Inc stock since 2007 according to his Form 4 filed with SEC.
