In 2015, Zebulon’s David Harris owned 11 Smithfield’s franchises – that’s 25% of the chain’s outlets. However, Smithfield closed Harris’ Havelock restaurant last year and three other units in May.

Since then, the franchisee has filed a lawsuit in Wake County against the company. He claims in court documents that it created fake excuses to terminate franchise agreements and take over their restaurants.
