The bamboo – fashionable, practical, beautiful
The evergreen bamboo has found its place in the garden as well as in the fashionable, stylish furnishing and decoration of your own four walls. This is because it has many special advantages and positive properties. These are longevity, heat and water insulation and a certain fire resistance.
The bamboo is actually not a real tree. Despite its appearance, it is one of the twelve subfamilies of the so-called sweet grass family. There are over 1500 species of it worldwide. The bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth. Some varieties of it grow between half a meter and one meter per day and can thus reach heights of around 35 meters.
Most bamboo plants bloom very late – after about 15 to 100 years and only once. After flowering, most species then die because the formation of flowers weakens them too much.
The bamboo in garden design and its symbolism
The bamboo plants spread an exotic, Asian flair in every garden, which creates a timeless, elegant atmosphere. That is why bamboo is very valued in Germany and in other European countries. In addition, the bamboo hardly finds any pests in the garden and is very robust. An interesting and very notable fact is that the bamboo was the only plant to survive the atomic bombing raids on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Bamboo plants grow evergreen and can withstand enormous cold in winter. That is why the bamboo in China is a symbol of longevity, wealth and strength. Furthermore, it is an essential, indispensable element in the garden design of the traditional art of Feng Shui. In general, the bamboo with its straight, upright appearance symbolizes the eternal path to simplicity, devotion and enlightenment. In India bamboo is also a symbol of friendship, in Japan a symbol of purity and in the Philippines a symbol of good luck.
Bamboo plants have the advantage that they require little care and grow very quickly. They are often used as evergreen privacy and wind protection in gardens and on terraces, because if the bamboo is planted in rows, the plants quickly form a dense hedge.
Fast, renewable, sustainable raw material
Thanks to its rapid growth, bamboo is a natural and very sustainable raw material. In Asia it is traditionally used as a material for a large number of different projects and productions. For example, beds, baskets, mats, furniture, parquet floors, Tuben, Clothing, hats, umbrellas, fences, musical instruments and paper is also produced.
In the past, bamboo was known in the countries of Asia and South America as the “wood for poor people” because it has been used as an important substitute for wood in architecture for thousands of years. Today it is still used as a raw material for building scaffolding, houses, water pipes and even bridges. A good reason for this is not only its mechanical strength, but also its flexibility and low weight.
Furthermore, bamboo plants are also suitable as fuel, because they have a calorific value that is more than twice as high as conventional wood fuels. A recyclable, reusable plastic is produced from bamboo fibers – so-called Bamboo Plastic Composites (BPC). This is a very hard-wearing and weather-resistant material that is ideal for all types of floor coverings. BPC is particularly good for the outside area of the house, e.g. on the balcony or terrace, because it is highly water-repellent, easy to care for and largely insensitive to insects and fungi. This flooring also isolates the acoustics of numerous noises.
Bamboo – a real all-rounder when it comes to furnishing
The beautiful bamboo is undisputedly proving to be a real all-rounder in terms of home furnishings and decoration. The designers of today’s modern times have discovered this fact and are very happy to use the sustainable, robust raw material for their numerous ideas and gorgeous inspiration.
Furniture made from bamboo is becoming more and more popular because it is characterized by extreme lightness, resistant stability and important ecological sustainability. Bamboo is harder than oak, but because of its elasticity it can be woven beautifully. These properties leave the designers and architects a lot of freedom for their creativity. Genuine unique items are created that are superior to the classic, widespread products made of wood in many respects. Since there are different ways of making furniture from bamboo, they are very different and attractive in their appearance. The uniqueness of the color pattern and shades of the pipe material also add a lot to this.
When placed correctly, the pieces of bamboo furniture can shine in a whole new light in every home and act as a catalyst for positive energies under Feng Shui aspects.
Popular bamboo beds, cabinets, tables, sofa sets, shelves and lamps through to beautiful home accessories – the selection of bamboo products is large and very inspiring. Have you ever thought about decorating your home in an exotic and sustainable way with the help of bamboo ?!
